What's the difference between Saxon's Algebra 1 textbooks? Which does Nicole recommend?

Modified on Sat, 7 Mar at 10:23 PM

Saxon publishes two different Algebra 1 textbooks.

Algebra 1, 3rd ed -

  • orange/blue cover
  • includes .25 credit of integrated geometry
  • should be followed by Saxon's Algebra II, 3rd ed
  • still in publication for homeschoolers & public/private schools

Algebra 1, 4th ed
  • camera on the cover
  • does not include geometry
  • can be followed by any geometry course or any Algebra II (without integrated geometry)
  • published for the school market, going out of print in the near future

With the above options, there are a couple of different paths for Saxon's higher level math. The path Nicole recommends depends on your child’s math skills and desired college/career path.  You can read more about the different paths here.
